Appearance: Gracin is a tall man, coming to about 6’1’. He has red hair, green eyes, and is fairly well built for his height. He is well groomed and well put together, always dressed in well tailored suits and nice shoes.

Personality: Gracin Collinsworth is the epitome of the pharse “calm, cool and collected.”

Raised by a father who was more interested in a soldier and an heir than a son, Everett Collinsworth prided himself on preparing his son for anything. He was supposed to be the one who follow in his father’s footsteps in every way, but when his Calling came, Gracin was no longer useful. He wasn’t an archangel, he was a guardian, which is basically as bad as being illegitimate in his father’s eyes, so Gracin has never been able to really satisfy he’s father’s needs, which has built a lot of resentment in Gracin over the decades, but also Gracin has stepped into the void his father left behind. He cares for his siblings the way his father should, and uses most of his effort protecting them from his father, and the deals that he makes.

At the same time, he also learned very quickly, that being emotional did not get you anywhere. If you wanted something, you had to be the one holding all the cards, and that’s how he approaches not only his business, but also most of his life. He plans every move he makes down to the last detail, plans for contingencies, and has made a life of being a very, very good at making sure messes that are supposed to go away went away, and that’s essentially his function in the Society. He is an underling, and while working with some of the older members of his group can get frustrating to say the least—his job gives him just enough power to satisfy his craving for it, and enough justification in knowing that he was right in what he’s doing to be happy. Personally, he’s glad he isn’t that high up on the food chain—it gives him a bit more latitude to do what he needs to do without starting an inter-species incident.

This approach to life, however, can leave him a little cold with most people. Despite his young appearance, he has been around for a little over half a century, and he’s an old man in the sense that he has little patience for the attitudes of people younger than him. He thinks that he knows best, and he applies that mentality to not only those younger than him, but also those older than him who adopt a juvenile mindset. He has little patience for wasting time and he just wants to get in, get out and get gone. This doesn’t win him very many friends, however, and he has more associates than close personal ties. In fact, the only people he truly cares about beyond the superficial are his sisters, Lorraine and Charlotte, and his half-sister and ward, Sheridan.

Sheridan is probably the only person in the word who sees that Gracin is actually a human being. He’s been her guardian since she was a small child, and they spend all of their time together. He can’t be the cool, calm collected man all the time with her, and more to the point he doesn’t want to be. He wants to give her the life that he never had, and he doesn’t want her to live in fear of the person who’s supposed to take care of her, especially when their Calling requires they spend all their time together. He home schooled her, is her constant companion, and she is by far the most important person in his life and he would do anything possible to protect her and keep her safe. She is, however, the only person that he will extend that courtesy to—everyone else eventually reaches a point where they’re expendable.

History: Gracin was born to Everett and Miranda Collinsworth on January 15, 1947. The Collinsworths were a well off family in New York City, mostly due to Everett’s involvement in the Society—not that the rest of the world knew that. Well, that and the fact that Everett was already a couple of centuries into his life as an archangel before he decided that now was the time to settle down, procreate and have a son to carry on the family name. He cared little for Miranda, and his children beyond the fact that they carried his own blood, but he did the best he could to support them, regardless. In fact, it could likely be said that Everett was a sociopathic serial killer who cared little for anyone but himself, but given the fact that he only killed demons—which is what his Calling demands he do—it would be hard to prove it. Regardless of all of this, all he wanted was an archangel son to carry on his bloodline, and spent most of the little time he did spend in their New York home grooming Gracin for that eventuality.

Unfortunately, for Gracin, he wasn’t it.

When Gracin received his Calling at sixteen, his father all but disowned him for it. He had openly mocked being a Guardian as a Calling Gracin’s entire life, and the fact that his son had become one was one of the most offensive things that could ever happen to the man. To make matters worse, the Calling of archangel went to his middle child, Lorraine, who was most decidedly a girl. Maybe the universe was trying to tell Everett something. Did he listen? No, not so much. The only thing that kept Gracin from telling him father to kiss his ass and running off to join a cult somewhere was in fact, his Calling. Neither Lorraine, nor his sister Charlotte were his wards, but he still felt the need to protect them and watch over them to the best of his ability—and more to the point, protect them from his father. Not that his sisters had any delusions as to who their father was—they were raised by him, the same as he was—but he didn’t trust Everett not to do anything stupid.

He graduated from New York University with his MBA in 1971, after which he given legal control over the family business, as well as inducted into the Society. It wasn’t necessarily his ideal choice, working for the group that had let his father run around like a madman, unchecked, but despite his rebellion against his father’s opinions on his siblings, some of those ideals managed to stick. The Society was looking to stabilize the world as they knew it, and Gracin was young enough not to question it, and by the time he was, he couldn’t say he cared. He liked the power the Society gave him, and even though he was barely more than a minion and the clean-up crew, he got to be good at what he did, and that was the part that mattered.

He spent a few decades going about his business and cleaning up messes here and there when he received a phone call from his father, demanding that he take care of something for him. Apparently, his father had remarried and had another child, all without his children’s knowledge. Recently her mother passed away, and since Everett decided that he couldn’t be bothered to care for his daughter on his own, and he was leaving it to Gracin to handle it. Gracin had no interest in caring for a child, but his father is his father, and he did as he was told. He went to pick the little girl up from his father’s attorney’s office, and was surprised to find that she was his ward.

Naturally, that changed everything.

Sheridan became his constant companion for the next eleven years. Due to the nature of his Calling, he was forced to be with her at all times, and with his work, she needed to travel with him. She was home schooled, and sheltered much in the same way he was, but he was a much more loving guardian than his father ever was.

Just a few weeks shy of his sixty-fifth birthday, he received orders that he was to head to Chicago.
